Not once, not twice, nor thrice…2007 is the fourth year of the Once Upon an Island Festival of Story. We’ve got all kinds of stories surprises in store for you this year. Our line up includes the Travelling Tuataras from Rotorua who will be igniting the creative spark with their performances and workshops. Moira Wairama will be returning to the island joined by her storytelling partner Tony Hopkins with bilingual stories and an island launch of her award winning book, The Puppet Box. This years festival will have a special focus on the ancient art of puppeteering. New Zealand puppeteer Judith Bishop will be sharing her skills and puppet maker and author Erin Devlin of The Kiwi Puppet Company will be highlighting her new books featuring NZ native birds. The talented Luke Devery will delight you with his shadow puppet performance of Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Happy Prince’.Exercise you own talents as a storyteller and enrole in a story and integrated arts workshop at the ‘Artworks with Story’ Day. Choices include film, Indian dance, doll making, puppetry,drama, music, clay, visual arts just to name a few.As ever we’ll be out in the Stony Batter Tunnels on the Queen’s birthday Monday. Monday 4th June 12-3pm Into the Dragons Lair Stony Batter Tunnels Come enter the lair of the Waiheke Wyrm and join an interactive storytelling drama. Sessions run on the ½ hour at 12.30/1.30/2.30. Please arrive 10 minutes before session . Dress as a princess or knight to win a spot prize. Cost $5 or $15 per family (2 adults & 2 children)
